Roof terrace 700C+ oven, Bath-a challenge
Roof terrace oven, Bath
In 2014, we were contacted by Peter, a client who had bought a penthouse flat off plan in a new development in Bath. A plan was developed during the construction phase and we were finally allowed access for the build in 2015. Being at the top of the building had its challenges as everything had to be lifted by tele-handler and unloaded carefully onto pallets to protect the roof waterproofing.
The footprint for the roof terrace oven build was fairly small and waterproofing quite delicate so we had to work carefully so as not to cause any damage to the rubber roof protection. Protecting the structure with cement board laid over textile matting, we clad the oven base and cupboards with smooth hardwood decking to match that proposed for the terrace.
The small Four Grand-Mere 700mm diameter wood-fired oven lifted by tele-handler was eventually clad in lead tiles after the client had an idea to cover it with something unusual. The cupboards were given sawn york-stone worktops to match the paving under the cooking area.
The client was extremely happy with the build and continues to cook and entertain when he’s home from piloting pleasure yachts in the Mediterranean!
