The Outdoor Fireplace is a fairly new idea in the UK which is surprising considering our generally cool evenings. The concept has been taken up by garden designers most actively and perhaps also architects looking to extend the use of space into the evening and making socializing around a focus an outdoor activity as well as an indoor one. The word ‘focus’ comes from the Latin for Hearth, being the hub around which everything happened so it is hardly surprising that in spaces lacking a single point of reference, the fireplace has moved outside as well.

By Fireplace, we mean any point of reference that contains fire; it could be a Firebowl, Firepit, Brazier, a Sculpture or something much grander such as a masonry or built structure that contains fire as an element. The issue these days is how to power the fire without causing excessive pollution or smoke and drive everybody back inside!

We can design a focal point in your garden around which your family and friends can gather and working with other professionals can provide a safe working source of heat. We can coordinate the materials we use to match those of your property or create daring structures which challenge it!

Outdoor Fireplaces

You can see various examples (on the left) by a sculpture based fireplace company B&D. Best known for her indoor fire sculptures, now artist Cathy Azria has re-invented her “Bonfire” concept for the garden. Built to special commission, her fires can form the heart of an ‘outdoor room’. Running on mains gas, they can be designed into a chimney or built into fireproof/frost proof “box” vessels or set on a slab.

Prices start at £2600. All designs are bespoke so you will receive a construction quotation from us based on an agreed design.
